Peter Monteath and Mandy Paul (with Rebecca Martin) recently had published Interned: Torrens Island 1914–1915 (Wakefield Press) telling the little-known story of South Australia’s ‘enemy within’ – the Germans, Austrians, and even some British subjects, who found themselves behind barbed wire on Torrens Island when war broke out across Europe.
