New books: 10 September 2020

Congratulations to Johanna Perheentupa for the publication of Redfern: Aboriginal Activism in the 1970s (Aboriginal Studies Press, 2020). This is the story of how, with Aboriginal Australians in Redfern prevailed over abuse and discrimination to build organisations that have served as models for similar organisations all over Australia.

Congratulations to Amanda Harris for the publication of Representing Australian Aboriginal Music and Dance 1930-1970 (Bloomsbury, 2020). Contextualizing recent music and dance practices in broader histories of policy, settler colonial structures, and postcolonising efforts, the book (with contributions by Shannon Foster, Tiriki Onus and Nardi Simpson) offers a new lens on the development of Australian musical cultures.

Congratulations to Laura Rademaker and Tim Rowse (editors) and all authors for the publication of Indigenous Self-Determination in Australia: Histories and Historiography (ANU Press, 2020). This edited collection covers domains of government policy and Indigenous agency including local government, education, land rights, the outstation movement, international law, foreign policy, capital programs, health, public administration, mission policies and the policing of identity.
