Historian in China for Australian Writers Week

Clare Wright recently represented Australia as part of Australian Writers Week in China, sponsored by Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and organised by the Australian Embassy in Beijing. Clare spent 10 days in China, travelling to four cities (Guangzhou, Hefei, Shanghai and Beijing) and participating in 17 events including lectures and workshops, ‘mentor walks’, screenings of her television documentaries, China-Australia alumni dinners and several International Women’s Day events at restaurants and consulates. She also participated in panels at the Beijing Bookworm International Literary Festival, alongside British, Chinese and Icelandic authors.

The theme of AWW16 was ‘award-winners’; the other authors on the cultural diplomacy tour were Robert Drewe, Graeme Base and Jane Godwin.
