September 2007 Hi historians, Sorry it has been such a gap since my last report, and this one is so short. Normally I would be saying these things to you at the Conference, but as I’m in London an e-mail will have to do. Firstly welcome to all our new Postgrads. I hope you are enjoying History Australia, and if you are headed for Armidale that you have a good time at the conference. I know I did at the last one! There will be a heavy Postgrad presence (thanks to the organisers for their hard work), so please make yourselves known to each other. I suggest dinner. Or perhaps beer. Why not do both? And please go along to the AGM – there are some important resolutions being discussed, and it’s one member, one vote. You should all have been receiving information on Postgrad positions and fellowships through our email list from Jane. Most, if not all, group emails will go through this official channel, though please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions or comments, and I will do my best to help. Keep an ear out for a forthcoming announcement about a great new postgraduate prize. I can’t go into any details before it is official, but it there is a substantial sum and publication involved. The information will go out to you as soon as it is announced. There are several other developments in the AHA which are also of interest, but you’ll have to attend the AGM or wait for the announcements to find out. Preparations for next year’s conference in Melbourne (July 7-10) are coming along nicely. We hope to be able to offer you some specific postgraduate workshops in addition to the main conference. It’s a busy time conference wise, but I’m sure ours will be worth the trip. Again, please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or suggestions. I’m out of the country until December (it’s a hard life, but someone has to do it), so I can’t guarantee an immediate reply, but I will get back to you! Looking forward to meeting you, Anna Doukakis |
