Religious History Association: ‘Local Communities, Global Networks’ AHA Conference Stream CFP

The conveners of the Religious History Association stream invite submissions for papers that explore the theme of ‘Local Communities,Global Networks’ as it relates to the history of religion. Very few aspects of human life have shaped local communities and global networks – and especially the relationship between the two – as consistently as religious belief, practice and institutions. Convenors therefore encourage proposals for papers or panels that consider the relationship between the local and the global in relation to religion in any time or place.

Thematic or analytic approaches may include (but aren’t restricted to):

  • local communities and global networks  in relation to other solidarities such as nation, region or empire,
  • Religion and the history of the idea of the ‘global’
  • Global networks of religious authority and influence, and/ or resistance
  • Global and local circulation of religious styles
  • Missions and missionary networks

They also welcome proposals for papers and panels on other topics in religious history.

Proposals should be submitted through the abstract submission portal: please select the Religious History Association in the‘association stream’ option.

Please direct any questions to the stream conveners Michael Thompson (Michael.thompson@acu.edu.au) or Joanna Cruickshank (joannac@deakin.edu.au).

Applications due 28 February 2019
