PhD Scholarship in Historical Studies / Oral History: ‘Australian Fathers and Broken Families’

In summary, the successful applicant will join a team of five researchers working on the Australian Research Council-funded project, ‘Fatherhood: an Australian History, 1919-2019’. She or he will be supervised by oral historian Professor Alistair Thomson, and will contribute to the wider project by researching the role and memory of fathers in so-called ‘broken families’, drawing upon oral histories about the separation of children from their families collected by the National Library of Australia for the Bringing Them Home collection (https://www.nla.gov.au/oral-history/bringing-them-home-oral-history-project) and the Forgotten Australians and Former Child Migrants collection (https://www.nla.gov.au/oral-history/forgotten-australians-and-former-child-migrants-oral-history-project).

It is expected that applicants will have been in discussion with Professor Thomson prior to submission of the EOI.

Closing date for applications: Friday 15 March 2019.
