AHA-CAL Postgraduate History Prize: Closing Date Extension to 31 July 2010

The Australian Historical Association (AHA), Copyright Agency Limited (CAL) and Monash University ePress are delighted to announce a prestigious new Postgraduate History Prize. This annual prize is for an unpublished article-length work of historical research in any area of historical enquiry, produced by a postgraduate student enrolled in an Australian university during the year 2009.

Entrants from all disciplines are encouraged, including social science and humanities areas, and those enrolled in cross-disciplinary areas such as women's studies and Asian studies. Primarily funded by CAL, this prize will help foster important historical research and writing amongst Australian postgraduates, and encourage them on to further publication.

In addition to the $4000 prize, the winning entry will also be published in History Australia – the journal of the Australian Historical Association, published both online and in print by Monash University ePress. Up to three shortlisted articles may also be published in History Australia, at the discretion of the editors of the journal.

New Historians Postgraduate Conference
Final Call for Papers
Victoria University of Wellington
30th and 31st August 2010

Keynote Speakers include:
Dr Claudia Orange, Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa
Professor Jonathan Scott, University of Auckland

The postgraduate students from the History Programme at Victoria University of Wellington are holding the fifth annual New Historians Postgraduate Conference at Victoria University on the 30th and 31st August 2010.

This conference has proved to be a great chance for postgraduate students from New Zealand and further afield to present their work in a friendly, supportive environment. It is an excellent opportunity to get feedback, for discussion on a wide range of topics, and to network with students from around the country.

Papers are invited on all historical themes, topics or issues from MA or PhD students. In previous years the conference has been interdisciplinary in nature and papers on historical topics from disciplines other than history will be welcomed. Presentations will be twenty minutes in length.

Provisionally, registration will be $20. There will also be a conference dinner on 31st August.

Please submit an abstract of no more than 250 words, a brief biographical statement of no more than 200 words, and your contact details to newhistorians@myvuw.ac.nz.

The deadline for submissions is Monday 12 July 2010.

For more information, please contact us at newhistorians@myvuw.ac.nz.
