Review of Australian Studies in Japan

Dear Historian and Colleague,

A reminder:

The AHA has been invited to submit a report to the InASA Review of Australian Studies in Japan.

We would like to receive your input in order to compile a well-informed submission.

Please reply in response to all or any of the terms of reference (listed below) before Friday 15 May.

Here are the five terms of reference we would like you to address: -

  1. Please tell us about any existing relationships your department or members of it may have with Japanese institutions (eg teaching programs, research interests and partnerships).
  2. Please indicate, if you are able, opportunities for teaching initiatives in Australian history within Japanese university curricula.
  3. Please indicate, if you are able, opportunities for research links in history between Australia and Japan at the individual or institutional level.
  4. Please suggest, if you are able, ways to
    a) increase the number of Japanese students studying Australian history topics at either Australian or
    Japanese universities
    b) facilitate greater links between Australian and Japanese postgraduate students.
  5. Please suggest ways in which Australian history might contribute to cultural diplomacy in Japan (eg cultural activities, public presentations, etc).
I’d appreciate it also if you could pass on this request to colleagues in your own department who may have a special interest in Japan, or experience in teaching Japanese students of Australian history.

Best wishes,
Martyn
