2008 Inaugural AHA/CAL Shortlist for a Postgraduate Paper
Twenty-nine postgraduate students submitted a total of thirty-one essays in 2008, covering a very wide range of topics, periods and contexts. Our first reader, Emeritus Professor Geoffrey Bolton (Murdoch), provided a shortlist of six articles:
- Susie Byers (University of Western Australia), '"I am not a force of nature": ecology and humanity in the fascism of Pierre Drieu La Rochelle';
- Graeme Calder (University of Tasmania), 'The melliferous cider tree';
- Diana Covell (University of Sydney), 'Who's that under the hard hat? Challenging Labour Traditions';
- Kay Dreyfus (Monash University), '"Truth" and the telling of the past in the biodocumentary film Weintraubs Syncopators';
- Heather Gaunt (University of Tasmania), 'History and memory in the Tasmanian Public Library' and
- Jen Hawksley (University of Wollongong), 'In the shadow of war: Australian parents and the legacy of loss, 1915–1935.'
